It is not often that the national media shines its light on an individual donation made to an individual British school, but that is exactly what happened this spring when Paddy Dear (C, 1974 - 79) was interviewed by The Times about his endowment of the Paddy Dear Bursary Award.

Paddy’s extraordinary gift of £10 million is to support families at Winchester College who are able to make a contribution towards school fees, but cannot support the full cost of an independent education.

As you will have read in Paddy’s own article on page 30, he was the beneficiary of a partial award himself back in the 1970s. He had already been generously supporting the College’s bursary programme for several years when he spoke to us about his idea for this new award.
