The Wykeham Journal offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on the life of the College and the principles by which it continues to be shaped.

This issue does so at a time of notable transition, and its contributions are united by a quiet confidence in Winchester’s capacity to adapt with integrity. You will find here reflections on leadership and stewardship, on sustaining excellence amid external pressures, and on engaging wisely with new technologies while remaining rooted in humane learning. Set alongside these are stories of access, community, generosity, and scholarly endeavour, from the preservation of our collections to the experiences of pupils past and present. Together, they speak to an education that values breadth of mind, depth of character, and a sense of service beyond the self. As ever, the Journal records not only what the College does, but for what it stands and why that continues to matter.

Cover Image: The silver Athenian tetradrachm ( a coin) from the mid-5th century BC features Athena's head on one side and her owl symbol with the inscription 'AOE' (of the Athenians) on the other. It was acquired in 2018 through a fund established by Lowell Libson Ltd, in memory of Anthony du Boulay (C, 1943 - 46) to build a collection of ancient Greek coins.
